I was having a conversation with a colleague of mine, and we were discussing some business changes. Really changing up our business practices, creating new experiences for our offerings, and taking the theme of not being another me-too for what we were reinventing for our future look for the business.

We were having such an exciting conversation regarding the new services we wanted to offer, the exciting ways we believed our client would take these new changes, and how we truly believed it would elevate “us” as THE company to work with. We threw our heads back, literally cackling as to our good fortune of these thoughts and being so damn proud of ourselves!

And then… after we got all excited, crafted the plan, documented the steps needed to move forward, it was only then we remembered: we have employees. We have employees. And, we knew exactly what they would save about all of these exciting plans. It would be pure, unabashed, strong, emotional push back! It was different! It was change! It would mean they would have to learn new things! Aurgh! Our balloon deflated within seconds; the cackling turned into audible groans.

And THAT is reality! There is certainly a subset of people who are so excited with change (hand up from this girl… totally on the Change Bus with a smile on!) and then there are others who want to stay where it’s comfortable. Absolutely no shame in either one of those.

As a leader, it becomes imperative that change must happen. And, after 2020 and the changes that were forced on literally every business in the world, change must continue to happen. However, a healthy mindset regarding this aspect is that we now GET to change.

Maybe you must look really hard, or possibly it’s a bit clearer to you, with the things that 2020 served up to you/your business that are great changes to your business, your operating model, your customer service. C’mon, Folks, there’s nothing we can do about what 2020 served up to all of us. What did you learn from it, to take into the future and re-brand you, your business, and the future ready new YOU?

C’mon Rockstars! Let’s do this future together! Let’s wrap our arms around this and rock it! You in with me?!
